Help Towards Funeral Costs

We understand that the cost of arranging a funeral can feel overwhelming. If you are on a low income and receive certain benefits or tax credits, you may be entitled to financial support from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

What the Funeral Payment Covers

The Funeral Payment can help contribute towards essential costs such as:

✓ Burial fees, including exclusive rights to a particular plot
✓ Cremation fees
✓ Doctor’s fees
✓ Up to £700 towards the funeral director’s fees
✓ Transporting the deceased within the UK (for any distance over 50 miles)

If the person who has died had a pre-paid funeral plan, support will only be provided for items not covered by that plan.

Who Can Apply

You may be eligible to apply if you are the:

✓ Partner of the deceased
✓ Parent, child, or close relative
✓ Close friend responsible for making the funeral arrangements

When and How to Apply

✓  Claims must be made within three months of the funeral date.

✓ Applications can be completed online or over the phone with the Department for Work and Pensions.

✓  The amount awarded will depend on your individual circumstances and the benefits you receive.

💡 Please note: This payment is a contribution towards the cost of the funeral. It will not cover the full amount.
